Gastroenterology is a branch of science that studies diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine (colon) and rectum, diseases of the liver, gallbladder and tract, pancreas and abdominal wall, that is, diseases, diagnosis and treatment of all organs, except the kidneys, of the abdominal organs.

The areas in which the science of gastroenterology works can be grouped into two main areas:

The first group includes diseases of the esophagus (esophagus), stomach, small and large intestine, and back passage, called the gastrointestinal tract.

The second group includes diseases of the liver, gallbladder and ducts, and pancreas. Gastroenterology specialists diagnose and treat diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small and large intestines, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas. Endoscopic techniques are commonly used to diagnose these diseases.

Gastroscopy is the process of looking at the esophagus, stomach, and 12-rectum through the mouth. Colonoscopy is another procedure used to diagnose diseases of the large intestine. In both examinations, the patient does not experience any discomfort.
